2009-12-22: Shocking tender published by Albert Luthuli Munici

For a municipality that bears the name of Chief Albert Luthuli (who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1960), the publication of its tender on Friday 18 December 2009 surely represents a low point in its history.  In the Friday 18 December 2009 issue of the Sowetan newspaper, the Albert Luthuli Local Municipality called for tenders from service providers to assist it in complying with the municipal budget & reporting regulations.  The problem is that the compulsory briefing (and the only place that bidders were able to obtain the tender document) was to be held in the municipal manager's boardroom at 10a.m. on Friday 18 December 2009.

This is grossly unfair, making it virtually impossible for anyone to participate in the tender.  We urge all our subscribers and users to take up the matter directly with the municipal manager Mr DR Mango or mayor ES Dhlamini.  They can be contacted by phone: 017-8434000 or by email: mm@albertluthuli.gov.za   Surely such a tender is illegal - we hope that the municipality will publish a correction immediately.

Such a slur on Albert Luthuli's name must not be allowed!
